Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, one of 2 Water Parks in Walt Disney World Resort, features one of the world's tallest and fastest free-falling waterslides, as well as slides and rides for the whole family—like a kid-sized, snow-castle fountain play area with scaled-down versions of the more thrilling attractions.

The story behind Disney's Blizzard Beach begins with a freak snow storm that blanketed Florida.

Within the blink of a snowflake-tipped eye, a ski resort sprang up with slalom courses, toboggan slides and iceberg walkways. Then, just as quickly, the weather shifted back to hot.

The whole resort started to melt. What to do?

An enterprising alligator saw an opportunity! Clad in a scarf and hat, this Ice Gator slid down the snow-less ski jump, shouting 'Yahoooo!' all the way.

With a big splash he landed in a pool of melted snow below the mountain. It was at this moment the slushy, slippery slopes became an exhilarating Water Park with a ski theme.

Blizzard Beach-Cool Advice

Renting a locker for your personal belongings is highly recommended,... especially if you plan on experiencing the big thrill attractions—since it may be difficult to keep track of your hats, glasses, jewelry and things while plunging down a nearly vertical 13-story high, ..360-foot long flume.. through a darkened tunnel at speeds of 50 to 60 miles per hour.

It is also advisable to wear water shoes or flip-flops while visiting Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, as you may choose to climb stairs to access certain attractions.

Plus, the ground can get hot and so will your feet!

Blizzard Beach-Guest Services

Special dietary requests at Walt Disney World Resort can be met by The Walt Disney World Food and Beverage Team, though note, in many cases, advance notice is required—usually at the time you make your reservations.

Take a leisurely ride to the top of Mount Gushmore aboard colorful, wooden, ski resort type chairlifts with umbrellas and dangling skis.

The Chairlifts provide a one-way trip to the top of the mountain for access to these water attractions at the Green Slope area of the mountain:

Note that you cannot take tubes or mats with you on the Chairlift. Also, a Gondola is available for disabled Guests to access the top of Mount Gushmore.

Blizzard Beach-Height restrictions

Less than 32 inches tall? Don't worry. There is a stairway path to reach the top of Mount Gushmore for access to the water attractions.

See the information on each water attraction to check height requirements for the individual attractions at the top of Mount Gushmore...ask a friendly member of staff!

Disney Water Park Safety

At the Disney Water Parks, Guest safety is of utmost importance and lifeguard duty at the Disney Water Parks is serious business.

Highly trained and qualified lifeguards are on duty over the course of the day patrolling the Water Park.

All Disney lifeguards must complete a thorough training program that exceeds most national standards.

There is an observatory located at the summit, if you do not wish to ride down a water slide but want to enjoy the view.

Wheelchair and Electric Convenience Vehicle (ECV) Rentals.

Wheelchairs are welcome at Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park; however they are not available for rent.

Transportation

Transportation to and from Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park is available via bus throughout Walt Disney World Resort. .

Transportation is complimentary and offered as one of the benefits to Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel.

For Park Guests choosing to drive, complimentary self-parking is also available.

Blizzard beach-Cross Country Creek

Cross Country Creek is a slow, water raft ride in a continuously flowing stream that encircles Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park.

Grab an inner tube raft, put your feet up and chill out in this gently meandering stream that flows around the perimeter of Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park.

Pass through polar caves—large cave-like tunnels—and under gentle, misty waterfalls as your raft drifts aimlessly along.

This is a very popular attraction!

Big kids, teens and adults can ride at their leisure and let the world drift slowly by, or use Cross Country Creek for effortless transportation to other areas of Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park.

There are 7 locations to enter and exit Cross Country Creek.

Cross Country Creek is located at ground level and rafts are included with the price of admission. Grab a raft just about anywhere along the creek's route to soak up the sun and go with the flow...remember your sun block!

Blizzard-Downhill Double Dipper

Hop on an inner tube and race down the slopes! This waterslide resembles an Olympic-style downhill ski race with starting gates and a time clock to track each racer's time.

To allow for a fair race, the start gates open simultaneously when the race begins........

There are a lot of things to do at Blizzard-beach..plan your trip with the help of a theme park map!

But that's not all..... Half the race is in the dark! As you speed down a pair of 50-foot high, 230-foot-long side-by-side racing slides at 25 miles per hour, you disappear into a tunnel and emerge just before splashdown.

Downhill Double Dipper is near the Snow Stormers attraction and the Toboggan Racers attraction on the slopes of Mount Gushmore.

To get to these attractions, follow the signs to the attractions at the Purple Slope area of the mountain.

Melt-Away Bay, Blizzard Beach

Play in the bobbing waves. Float lazily on a raft. Sunbathe in a comfortable beach chair —on a sandy white beach.

Take an invigorating swim or bask under a refreshing waterfall.

Melt-Away Bay is an expansive oasis at the base of Mount Gushmore.
