Disney renames Cinderella's Golden Carrousel

Disney-News.....Disney renames Cinderella's Golden Carrousel

As of June 1, this popular ride will now be known as Prince Charming Regal Carrousel.

True to Disney form, they have even created a back story to go along with the name change:

After their wedding, Cinderella and her Prince Charming moved into Cinderella's Castle.

The Prince decided that he had some spare time on his hands since the kingdom was so peaceful.

He wanted to enter some jousting tournaments, but needed a little practice.

In some spare land near the castle, he built a contraption that would help him train.

It was a circular platform that held carved horses, big enough to ride on.

A trainee would sit on a wooden horse while the platform spun, allowing him to practice ring-spearing, one of the tournament events.

In this event, a knight rides his horse as fast as he can, and attempts to use his lance to spear a small ring hanging from a tree branch.

The ring-spearing event became known as "carrousel."

In September, Disney announced changes to Star Tours at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Work on the attraction at Disneyland was scheduled to start in October, but plans have changed.

The ride will now be shut down July 27 for workers to start the year-long process to covert it to a 3-D attraction.

Star Tours at Walt Disney World is scheduled to close September 8. Before it closes, there will be a party of sorts to allow guests a last chance to ride the original attraction.

"Last Tour to Endor" ..will be held on August 14 during Orlando's Star Wars Celebration V.

The special event costs $75 and will be held from 8 pm to 1 am.

It will include themed party zones, fireworks and a Death Star Disco.

Walt Disney World announced plans for a new 2,000-room value resort that will open in 2012.

Disney-News

Walt Disney World announced plans for a new 2,000-room value resort that will open in 2012.

Disney's Art of Animation Resort will be next to Pop Century

..and use the two empty buildings that had originally been planned for a Pop Century expansion.

The buildings were abandoned in 2001 when business declined.

The new resort will be the same size as Pop Century, but will offer 1,120 suites that will hold six guests and 864 regular rooms.

Suites have proven to be a popular choice by families, who often request the suites at the All Star Music Resort.

The buildings will be themed around four of Disney's most popular animated movies - The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Cars, and Finding Nemo.

Each of the four wings will have a courtyard that is designed to look like scenes from the movies.

Frank Paris, a senior project Manager with Disney.. said:- when you walk into this courtyard, you feel as if you are a character in a movie.
