Development has crept ever closer over the years, with retirement condos nearly casting a shadow over its entrance, but the park stands unspoiled and as a testament that man can enjoy nature without destroying it. Wildlife ViewingFlorida-Gulf-Coast, offers superb Wildlife Viewing. Honeymoon Island State Park, is home to many types of birds, including:-Honeymoon Island is home to many actively nesting birds including Osprey, Oyster catchers, Snowy Plovers and Least Terns. Roseate Spoonbills, Snowy Egrets, Great Blue Herons and many other species are often observed feeding in the bay, beaches and estuaries surrounding the park. Gopher tortoises and armadillos can be found in the picnic area and along the nature trail.

Both facilities offer beach chair and umbrella rentals for nominal fees and their decks are known for having great views of the gulf. Of course, there’s always plenty of space for just soaking up the sun on the beach! Heading out to the nature trails will give you ample opportunities to run into the inhabitants of the island. While Osprey are the norm, keep an eye out for the gopher tortoise crossing your path, the armadillo foraging for food, or the raccoon scurrying off into the woods. Please remember the essentials when exploring the outdoors – sun protection, hydration, and bug spray!!
