Orlando-Florida-Algonquin
Orlando-Florida-Algonquin.The Algonquins (also spelled Algonkins) are aboriginal/First Nations inhabitants of North America who speak this language, a divergent dialect of the Ojibwe language, which is part of the language family. Culturally and linguistically, they are closely related to the Odawa and Ojibwe, with whom they form the larger Anicinàpe (Anishinaabe) grouping. These peoples call themselves Omàmiwinini (plural: Omàmiwininiwak) or the more generalised name of Anicinàpe. Although Joel Chandler Harris collected materials for his famous series of books featuring the character Br'er Rabbit in the 1870s, the cycle had been recorded earlier among the Cherokees:- Here you can read about Brer-Rabbit

Rocky Mountains. Algonquin Brer Rabbit and Walt Disney World.
Orlando-Florida-Algonquin.Though known by several names in the past, the most common term derives from the Maliseet word elakómkwik "they are our relatives/allies". The much larger heterogeneous group of peoples, who stretch from Virginia to the Rocky Mountains and north to Hudson Bay, was named after the tribe. Most people in this group, live in Quebec. The nine bands in that province and one in Ontario have a combined population of about 11,000. Popular usage reflects some confusion on the point. The term "Algonquin" is sometimes used, for example in this entry in the Catholic Encyclopedia, to refer to all Algonquian-speaking societies, although this is not correct.

Anishinaabe....Algonquin Brer Rabbit and Walt Disney World.
Orlando-Florida-Algonquin.Many, still speak their own language, called generally Anicinàpemowin or specifically Omàmiwininìmowin. The language is considered one of several divergent dialects of the Anishinaabe languages. Among younger speakers, the language has experienced strong word borrowings from the Cree language. Traditionally, these people lived in either a birch bark wìkiwàm or in wooden mìkiwàm. Today they live in housing much like that of the general public. Traditionally, the Algonquins were practitioners of Midewiwin (the right path). They believed they were surrounded by many manitòk or spirits in the natural world. French missionaries converted many of these people to Catholicism in the 17th and 18th century. Today many of the people practice traditional Midewiwin or a syncretic merging of Christianity and Midewiwin.
Montreal. Brer Rabbit and Walt Disney World.
Orlando-Florida-Algonquin.In the earliest oral history, these people say they migrated from the Atlantic coast. Together with other Anicinàpek, they arrived at the "First Stopping Place" near Montreal. While the other Anicinàpe peoples continued their journey up the St. Lawrence River, the Algon-quins settled along the Kitcisìpi (Ottawa River), a long-important highway for commerce, cultural exchange, and transportation. A distinct Algonquin identity, though, was not fully realized until after the dividing of the Anicinàpek at the "Third Stopping Place". Scholars have used the oral histories, archeology and linguistics to estimate this took place about 2,000 years ago near present-day Detroit.
Fur trade
Orlando-Florida-Algonquin.After contact with the Europeans, especially French and Dutch, the Algonkin nations became key players in the fur trade. This led them to fight against the powerful Iroquois, whose confederacy was based in present-day New York. In 1570 the Algonquins formed an alliance with the Montagnais to the east, whose territory extended to the ocean.
