Princess-Diana A portrait By John Allsopp
Princess-Diana by John Allsopp.
I painted this portrait about four years ago as a tribute to this very much well loved Lady..she is sadly missed by many people all over the world.
My painting started from sketches from numerous pictures and video clips, these media essentials are important reference pieces when starting to make a unique work of art..they give you the chance to build a picture of the persons personality in your mind...which is essential when trying to capture realism in art.

Princess Diana by John Allsopp
This work is completely created by hand in oil on canvas. Oil is my favorite medium when it comes to art-work..there is nothing that comes near to vibrant oil..you just can't get the realism into your art-work with any other type of medium.
Princess Diana was not easy to do..like all ARTISTS i am very critical about my work..I just need to get it right...and that takes time and patience..however..I hope you will agree that the portrait I captured is very much a photographic moment the picture that most people remember when they think about Princess-Diana.
People often ask how i work and how i manage to get such outstanding realism.
I work from clear photographs which i buy from a variety of photo sales organisations..sometimes i borrow a book from a library and scan an image from the book which i would like to turn into a portrait.
Once i have the scan..i transfer the image onto glass..this glass slide can then be used as a source of reference..my method is to use a projector to project my glass image onto my prepared canvas.
Of course its not that simple..practice and patience over many years has taught me how to match color accurately and Disney-Coloring-Books taught me how to manipulate images into different poses and how to match true tonal quality.
