Dachshund
Digby the Wirehaired Dachshund reminds me about the Film that, Walt Disney, made called the Ugly dachshund, not that I am saying for one second that our Digby is ugly, in fact he is very photogenic, with a pleasant friendly nature to match.
My Dad Stan Allsopp was a Dachshund breeder, he had lots of success over the years, breeding dachshunds, and some qualified for the prestigious Crufts dog show.
I can remember all the Dachshund puppies we have had over the years, From Jason and Fritz, to Lynnty and Johnty, the later two named after Lynn and me. They were all so interesting and fun to have. At the end of the day a dog is mans best friend, without a shadow of a doubt, we should know we as a family have had many little Dachshunds.
Digby is a Wire Haired Dachshund, we have also had standards, clear red in color and miniature Wire Haired, Lynnty and Johnty were these types of dog breed.
Disney has played a part many times when I think back to those early Disney coloring books. I still enjoy painting dogs and have recently captured another, his name is casper!
It’s amazing when you think that mans best friend, his dog, are generations which started with the Wolf. Careful manipulation by man has now produced dogs that fit with people’s expectations.
Manipulating genes, goes on, in other breeding experiments too, sheep cattle horses are not exempt from man’s innate curiosity. Man has created some wonderful examples of pure bred animals, however there are a few where he has interfered with nature too much, and there are many examples to prove this theory.
I know Lola, a delightful little creature, was a rescued dachshund; she came to us early in her life, and lived to a ripe old age. She like all our other dogs gave lots of love and affection to us. Now what would we do without dogs?
The picture shows Lynnty, he was a mischievous little character which was one of his main attributes, to our liking of him. Always on the go looking for something to get his nose into. Friendly little character who was a delight to be with, Lynn and I would walk for miles with Lynnty and Johnty, as hounds they were smelling the air all the time, searching for unusual scents.
