Many a Disney fan wishes that they knew how to draw their favorite Disney character, such as Mickey or Minnie Mouse. And right there in Disney World and Disneyland, you are given the opportunity to do just that! When visiting Disney World, head to Hollywood Studios’ Animation Academy or to Disney California Adventures’ Animation Academy when visiting Disneyland. When visiting Disney World, the artist allows (typically) the audience to help in the selection of the character to be drawn during the class. In Disneyland, a schedule is used of the characters to be drawn during the day. If you are hope to learn to draw a specific character, visit the cast member working outside this attraction for a complete list of characters to be drawn for the day.
When visiting the Animation Academy, every guest receives a piece of paper and a pencil. No erasers are given out (though I certainly have wanted to smuggle one in in the past!) A Disney artist heads the fun, giving discussions on the character’s history, typical training for a Disney artist, etc. The artist uses a large projector to show the various steps needed to create the beloved character. The show lasts for approximately 20 minutes and is open to anyone who would like to draw. My son began drawing in this attraction as soon as he could hold (and not eat) a pencil.
When you leave, you are given the paper to take home with you so you can continue to practice creating the character. It is a great way to bring home a souvenir and memory!
Here is the drawing my son and I did during our recent vacation to Disneyland:
